Chief of the Clan - Dan Curtin is the Principal/Senior Management Consultant of Curtin and Associates, and also works for Strategic HR, a local consulting company.

Dan lives with his wife Joan, and their dog, Katie, in Los Angeles, California. He has long been active in community affairs. Dan and Joan have two sons, Steve and Mark Woolway who are married and live in New York City and San Francisco, respectively. Presently, Dan serves as Secretary of the PIHRA Foundation, which helps youths obtain and retain employment. He is also active in several professional human resources and consulting groups and Chambers of Commerce in the Los Angeles area.  Dan's grandfather and grandmother emigrated from the Rockchapel area in 1912. Dan is one of the founding members of the Clan.

Treasurer and United States Assistant Genealogist Dan Curtin lives in Kinderhook, New York near Albany, New York State, USA with his wife Anne. He retired from New York State in 2002. In addition to genealogy, he enjoys running, hiking and snowshoeing. He has 2 sons and 3 granddaughters. Dan's great-grandparents settled in Lafayette, New York, near Syracuse, New York in 1880. Thomas Curtin was from Brosna, County Kerry, and in about 1855 he married Johanna Curtin the daughter of James Curtin and Johanna Casey of Newmarket, County Cork.

Secretary -  Lisa's organizational and technical skills are a welcomed addition to the Curtin Clan. She is currently employed at the first cancer center in the United States located in Buffalo, New York as a project coordinator.  

While attending the Gathering in Peterborough in 2007, she was amazed at the information available about her Grandmother, Hannah Curtin Hearns who hailed from Knockafurtig. Hannah emmigrated to the USA aboard the "Caronia" with her brother Patrick in 1906 and after passing through Ellis Island they settled in Auburn, New York where they were reunited with their other siblings Mary and Margaret. Meeting members of the Curtin Clan bring back very fond memories of her beloved Grandmother with the wonderful Irish brogue.

Clan Genealogist - Margaret Curtain. Gympie, Australia Clan Genealogist Margaret lives in Queensland, Australia, with husband David, on a small beef cattle property, 10 miles from a local town.  Researching Curtin lines worldwide since 1978, when began the paternal line for the children. Margaret has researched all surnames within her children's ancestry back as far as possible. She travels to Ireland at every opportunity (usually 2 yearly when Clan Gatherings are on), to collect and find more early data on Curtin families. She has also collected a wealth of information from buying up thousands of documents. She is a founding member of the Clan, and became the official Clan Genealogist at the first Gathering in 1999. Has published Curtin Book 1.

 


 Anne Emperor

Newsletter Editor  - Anne is a retired teacher and computer programmer. The "teaching" came first and then moved to the computer field for less stress and more money. Anne lives not far from Bear Swamp in the Finger Lakes region of New York where her great, great grandparents bought a farm. They came from near Rockchapel in 1855 with 5 of their children including her great grandfather, Batt Curtin. The Curtins had 14 children in Bear Swamp. One was her grandfather Peter. Grandpa bought his farm in Skaneateles in 1908. Anne's mother was Agnes Curtin and that’s why she is in the Clan! Anne belongs to the Irish American Cultural Institute and has taught some Irish History Classes for her chapter. Currently Anne is working on a lecture on "Irish Women".  

  

 

 Jo-Anne Wylie

 Williamsville, New York State, USA

 

Membership Chair- Jo-Anne's dream was to meet her Grandmother's family in Ireland and visit the farm in which Hannah Curtin Hearns lived until she was 18 years of age. This dream came true when she discovered the Curtin Clan Association. With the assistance of the Clan Genealogist, Margaret Curtain she received the family tree dating back to 1860. Included in the gathering at Mallow in 2005 was a trip to Rockchapel and Knockafurtig.

Visiting the area where the Curtin family attended church, went to school and the family plots at the cemetery were heartwarming. With this information in hand, in 2006, Jo-Anne was granted Irish citizenship through the Foreign Birth Registry Program. Currently employed as a flight attendant Jo-Anne is able to travel to Ireland to take care of financial business for the Clan.

 


 Margaret (Peg) Curtin

 New London, Connecticut, USA

 

Member at Large - Peg has been the Mayor of New London Connecticut,  USA. Population 26,000. Thirty-three (33) years of experience in local and state government. Responsible for administration of seven collective bargaining contracts, policy development for two Governors of Connecticut, administration of programs and multi-million dollar budget.  Elected Offices Peg has held are Deputy Mayor; City Councilor; Chair Administration; Public Welfare & Education; Parks and Recreation.  In addition she has activated some 24 Boards and Commissions working with the State of Connecticut and private enterprise to create and implement a new vision and revitalization throughout the City of New London.

Member at Large - Gerard and his wife Andrée hosted and chaired the 2007 Gathering in Peterborough. Gerard is a semi- retired farmer and descendent of one of the two Curtin families that emigrated from Cork Ireland in 1825 to Ennismore Ontario. He enjoys fraternal work with the Knights of Columbus and travelling with his wife Andrée.

While Barb was living near the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, Indiana, her sister in law (who is a professional genealogist in Chicago) introduced her to genealogy. With the help of Margaret Curtain she has traced her Curtin ancestry to Brosna, County Kerry, Ireland.

Since 1980 she has continued to relish researching genealogy, not only for herself, but also for others. Barb a native Californian, her husband Bill and their travelling companion, Frankie (their 16 year old Aussie) are now enjoying their seventh year as full time RVer's.

 

 

Ted Curtin

Former Vice Chief of the Clan - Ted's great-grandparents were John Curtin and Catherine White, of Lavareen, Ennistymon, Co. Clare. His grandfather Timothy came to America in the 1870s, and raised his family in Norwood, Massachusetts, where Ted's father, Timothy James was born.

Ted and his son Ted are the second and third generation of Curtins born in Norwood. He and his wife Grace are high school classmates. After a career in the Navy, mostly in submarines, and a spell of teaching high school history, Ted, Grace and son Len retired to Plymouth, Massachussetts and began to track down the family stories he'd heard all his life. He learned of the new Clan organization from Neal's niece Kathleen, and joined the Clan in 1999.

Neal is Founder Emeritus of the Clan and mover of the clan serving as Secretary-Treasurer from 1997 - 2005, the first eight year's of the Clan's existence.  Neal is currently the DNA Chairman.  He is retired from the Boeing Corporation.
