Welcome!
"Failte!"
...to the Curtin Clan Virtual Meeting Place!
Dear Members and Visitors:
This site is a genealogical resource for all those interested in the Irish surname CURTIN and its many variations, Curtain, Curtayne, Curten, MacCurtain, McCurtain, McCurtin.
The name we share today descends from two ancient lines with different backgrounds. The one represented by the coat of arms above, adopted as the symbol of our organization, is that of the ancient family of MacCruitin of Thomond, who served as ollaves, or bards, to the great O'Brien family. The MacCruitin had their seat around present day Ennistymon, in County Clare. The other branch of the family is found along the Abbeyfeale River Valley in Counties Cork, Kerry and Limerick.
Descendants of these ancient lines have mingled, and spread around the world, and many of them have brought credit and honor to the name.
If you are a Curtin (or any of the name's variations), or if you are married to, or descended from a Curtin, we welcome you heartily. Visit our registry and leave us any family history you have, so that we may try to connect you to your branch of the family.
We also invite you to join the Curtin Clan Organization and become an active member. Please visit with us a while, and if you decide to join, the application form may be downloaded from our Membership Page or you may use PayPal to join online.
We depend on the annual dues, presently $30 US or 25 Euros to sustain our activities and research. The Clan meets every two years either in Ireland or North America. The next meeting is in 2011 in Chicago, Illinois.
Our Clan Genealogist, Margaret Curtain, has a cache of thousands of names in different lines of the name, and is very skilled in making connections. Your membership in the Clan allows us to support Margaret in this most important work.
Click on Margaret's links for more information.
In addition, the Curtin Clan has organized a DNA project with over 60 individuals tests. DNA testing of male Curtins identifies family connections. It can identify the historic branch from which you descended. It also can match individuals with common ancestors in the last 100-300 years. This greatly assists Margaret and others in their building of family trees. Click on the DNA project for more information.
If you have any questions, please feel free to leave them on our registry or email them CurtinClan@gmail.com.
We sincerely hope you enjoy your visit!
